New in Trust Wallet: Expanded TRON Support, Energy & Bandwidth Points, and TRX Staking
With Trust Wallet’s expanded support for TRON, you can now stake TRX to earn Energy or Bandwidth Points, track your daily resource balances, and enjoy gas fee discounts for TRON transactions. These enhancements make it easier for TRON users to interact with decentralized applications, swap tokens, and send transactions, all while minimizing fees.
In this guide, we’ll explore the benefits of staking TRX for Energy and Bandwidth Points, explain how these points work, and walk you through staking and using TRX in the Trust Wallet app.
What are Energy and Bandwidth Points on TRON?
In the TRON network, transaction costs are managed by two main types of points: Bandwidth and Energy. Here’s what each does:
Bandwidth Points: Bandwidth Points are required for every transaction on TRON, including both standard token sends and smart contract interactions. Every TRON user receives 600 free Bandwidth Points per day, which can cover approximately two basic sends. Additionally, you can earn extra Bandwidth Points by staking TRX, increasing your daily balance to support more transactions. If you have enough Bandwidth Points, you can send tokens, stake TRX, or interact with smart contracts without paying TRX in gas fees.
Energy: Required for more complex actions, such as interacting with smart contracts (e.g., swaps or dApp transactions). Unlike Bandwidth, Energy is not given for free—you need to stake TRX to earn Energy. (More advanced users can also acquire Energy through leasing mechanisms such as JustLend or Tronify’s Energy rental markets). However, having Energy can significantly reduce or even eliminate the gas fees for smart contract interactions, making Energy valuable for those who use TRON dApps frequently.
Each day, the Energy you’ve earned from staking TRX replenishes up to the cap based on your staking amount. Given the popularity of Exnergy for enabling zero-rated or discounted transactions, vast amounts are consumed daily on TRON—highlighting the benefits of staking TRX for Energy. You can view the daily Energy consumption on Tronscan’s Energy Consumption chart for insights into the demand.
Key Benefits of Staking TRX for Energy & Bandwidth
Trust Wallet’s expanded TRON support now offers:
Staking for Energy or Bandwidth: Stake your TRX directly in Trust Wallet to earn either Energy or Bandwidth Points.
Daily Tracking of Resources: Easily view your Energy and Bandwidth Points and track your daily balance to stay aware of your available resources.
Gas Fee Discounts: If you have enough Energy or Bandwidth, Trust Wallet automatically reduces transaction fees—potentially to zero. Energy points can reduce or eliminate fees for swaps and smart contract calls, while Bandwidth Points can eliminate fees for standard sends and staking.
Step-by-Step Guide: How to Stake TRX for Energy & Enjoy Zero-Rated Swaps
Follow this guide to get started with TRX staking and zero-fee transactions on TRON using Trust Wallet.
Step 1: Obtain TRX
To begin, you’ll need some TRX tokens in your Trust Wallet. There are a few ways to do this:
Buy TRX using Trust Wallet: Use your Trust Wallet to buy TRX via trusted partners.
Swap for TRX: Swap from another token on a different chain to TRX (TRON) within the Trust Wallet app.
Step 2: Stake TRX for Energy
Once you have TRX, stake it to start earning Energy, which will cover transaction fees for swaps and other smart contract interactions.
Open your Trust Wallet app and navigate to TRX.
Select Stake TRX and choose Energy as the staking resource.
To ensure you have enough Energy for at least one free swap per day, it’s recommended to stake a sufficient amount of TRX. Staking around 2,000 TRX should cover basic daily needs, while 8,000 TRX is ideal for larger interactions, as some swap transactions can consume up to 90,000 Energy. (Disclaimer: the required staking amounts are estimates and can vary depending on network conditions.)
Step 3: Perform a Discounted Swap
With your Energy ready, it’s time to try a swap with gas fee discounts:
In the Trust Wallet app, select the TRON token you’d like to swap, and proceed to the Swap option.
On the transaction confirmation screen, you’ll see a Discount Percentage that shows how much of the gas fee is covered by your Energy and Bandwidth Points. If you’ve staked enough, you may see up to a 100% discount.
Bandwidth Points are applied to cover the transaction data size.
Energy is consumed for smart contract computations.
Step 4: Replenish Your Energy & Bandwidth Points Daily
Each day, both your Energy and Bandwidth balances will replenish based on the amount of TRX you have staked for each. Free daily Bandwidth Points are separate from staked points. Your Energy will cap based on the amount of TRX staked, and you’ll also receive 600 free Bandwidth Points daily (plus any additional Bandwidth points you have from staking TRX for Bandwidth). This refresh ensures you’ll have fresh resources for zero-rated or discounted transactions again tomorrow.
By following these steps, you’ll be ready to interact with TRON dApps, swap tokens, and send transactions with ease and minimal fees. Enjoy the benefits of staking TRX with Trust Wallet!
