HIP-4

In Brief
HIP-4 (Hyperliquid Improvement Proposal 4) introduces native prediction-market primitives to the Hyperliquid Layer-1 blockchain, letting event contracts settle alongside Hyperliquid's existing on-chain perpetuals order book in self-custody.

What Is HIP-4?
HIP-4 is the fourth Hyperliquid Improvement Proposal — the upgrade that adds native prediction market primitives to Hyperliquid's Layer-1 blockchain. It extends Hyperliquid's
existing on-chain order-book infrastructure (originally built for perpetual futures) to support event contracts whose payoff depends on real-world outcomes.
HIP-4 turns Hyperliquid into a venue where users can trade both perpetuals and prediction markets from the same self-custody wallet, on the same on-chain order book, with the same matching engine and the same fast block times.
How Does HIP-4 Work?
A market is created on Hyperliquid for a defined future event with a resolution date.
The HIP-4 contract issues "Yes" / "No" outcome tokens that together always pay $1 in USDC collateral.
Users place orders directly on Hyperliquid's on-chain order book.
Matching, position tracking, and settlement happen on Hyperliquid's L1.
At resolution, an oracle posts the outcome on-chain and winning tokens redeem 1:1.
Users can withdraw collateral back to their self-custody wallet at any time.
Key Features of HIP-4
Native L1 Integration
Prediction markets settle on the same Hyperliquid L1 as Hyperliquid's perpetuals — no bridging.
On-Chain Order Book
HIP-4 markets use Hyperliquid's CLOB, preserving price-time priority and giving traders tight spreads.
USDC-Settled
Collateral, trading, and payouts use USDC, matching the rest of the Hyperliquid platform.
Same Wallet, Multiple Asset Types
Users trade perpetuals and prediction markets from a single self-custody wallet without switching venues.
High Throughput
Hyperliquid's L1 is designed to process tens of thousands of orders per second, making HIP-4 markets responsive even under load.
HIP-4 vs Other Onchain Prediction Markets
| Feature | HIP-4 (Hyperliquid) | Polymarket | Predict.fun |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chain | Hyperliquid L1 | Polygon | BNB Chain |
| Order model | On-chain CLOB | CLOB | Order book + AMM |
| Native asset class | Perps + predictions | Predictions only | Predictions + yield |
| Collateral | USDC | USDC | Stablecoin |
| Resolution | On-chain oracle | UMA optimistic oracle | On-chain oracle |
Use Cases
Cross-asset trading — taking perpetual and prediction-market positions from one venue
Capital efficiency — using a single USDC balance across both market types
Self-custody event trading with the speed and depth of an exchange-grade order book
Availability
HIP-4 prediction markets follow the same access policies as the rest of Hyperliquid. Trading is restricted for users in the United States, United Kingdom, and certain other
jurisdictions. Review Hyperliquid's terms of service for the full list.
HIP-4 and Trust Wallet
Trust Wallet offers native in-app support for Hyperliquid, including HIP-4 prediction markets, letting users trade event contracts and perpetuals from the same self-custody wallet without bridging or creating an account. Availability varies by region.
