요약
Learn about decentralized applications (dApps), how they work, what role they play in the world of Web3, and how to access them using Trust Wallet.
A decentralized application, or dApp, is a software application that operates on a blockchain or peer-to-peer network, rather than relying on centralized servers. Blockchain architecture enables dApps to function without a single point of control, which enhances their security, transparency, and resistance to censorship. Most dApps use smart contracts to enable their operations. Smart contracts are self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into code.
The rise of dApps has been closely tied to the growth of blockchain technology, particularly platforms like Ethereum, which provide the necessary infrastructure for developers to create these applications. dApps are designed to be open-source and community-driven, distributing control among users through tokens that represent ownership and governance rights. In this article, we will learn what a dApp is and how to explore dApps using the Trust Wallet browser extension.

Characteristics of dApps
dApps use distributed ledger technology (DLT), like the Ethereum blockchain. At the core of every dApp is the use of smart contracts. Smart contracts automate processes by executing predefined rules when certain conditions are met. For example, in a lending platform, a smart contract would manage the terms of a loan agreement between lenders and borrowers without requiring human intervention.
A dApp’s source code is intentionally made available to the public, enabling anyone to verify, use, copy, and modify the code. AsdApps run on blockchain networks, they are not controlled by a single entity or authority. dApps are protected by cryptography, meaning that all data is recorded and maintained in a public blockchain.
dApp users are not required to sign up or create a login; instead, they interact with the application directly on the blockchain. Trust Wallet has its own dApp browser extension that enables users to easily access these dApps.
Types of dApps
Finance (DeFi):
These applications provide financial services without intermediaries. They enable activities like lending, borrowing, trading, and earning interest on cryptocurrencies. Examples include:
Uniswap: Uniswap is the largest decentralized exchange (or DEX) operating on the Ethereum blockchain. It enables users anywhere in the world to trade crypto without an intermediary.
Aave: A lending protocol where users can earn interest by depositing assets or borrow against their holdings.
Gaming (GameFi):
dApps have revolutionized the gaming industry, introducing innovative models that enable players to earn real-world value through gameplay.
CryptoKitties: CryptoKitties is a blockchain-based virtual game that enables players to adopt, raise, and trade virtual cats. The game was made by Vancouver-based blockchain company Axiom Zen. It is the first known application of dApp for leisure and recreation.
Axie Infinity: Axie Infinity is a well-known NFT game that enables players to battle, breed, and trade digital pets known as Axies. Players can also breed their Axies to enhance their skills and use them to battle other players to earn rewards.
GODS Unchained: GODS Unchained is a blockchain-based trading card game that blends strategic gameplay inspired by classics like Magic: The Gathering and Hearthstone with the power of decentralized technologies.
Social Networks:
Some dApps function as social platforms where users can interact without centralized control. For instance:
Steemit: Steemit uses cryptocurrency to reward users who upload articles, images, and commentary. Users can also get paid by sourcing and up-voting popular content.
Mastodon: Mastodon is a decentralized social networking platform that operates on a network of independent servers, enabling users to join communities that align with their interests and community guidelines. Mastodon enables users to post short messages known as "toots," which can include text, images, videos, and polls.
Marketplaces:
These dApps enable the buying and selling of digital assets or goods. Examples include:
OpenSea: OpenSea is a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) marketplace that enables users to buy, sell, create, and trade NFTs. It is the largest NFT trading platform, with more than three million active users.
