NFT (Non-Fungible Token)

In Brief
A unique digital asset stored on a blockchain that cannot be replicated or exchanged on a one-to-one basis. NFTs represent ownership of digital items like art, music, collectibles, and in-game assets.

What Is an NFT?
A Non-Fungible Token (NFT) is a unique digital asset stored on a blockchain that cannot be replicated or exchanged on a one-to-one basis with another token. Unlike
cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum — where every unit is identical and interchangeable — each NFT has a distinct identity and provenance recorded permanently on-chain.
NFTs can represent ownership of digital art, music, collectibles, gaming items, domain names, event tickets, and real-world assets.
How Do NFTs Work?
NFTs are created (minted) using smart contracts on a blockchain. The smart contract assigns a unique token ID to each NFT and stores its metadata — including ownership history, traits, and associated media — either on-chain or via a decentralized storage system like IPFS.
A creator mints an NFT by deploying a smart contract
The NFT is assigned a unique identifier on the blockchain
The creator lists it on an NFT marketplace
A buyer purchases it — ownership is transferred and recorded on-chain
The transaction is permanent and publicly verifiable
NFT Standards
| Standard | Blockchain | Type |
|---|---|---|
| ERC-721 | Ethereum | Single unique NFT |
| ERC-1155 | Ethereum | Multiple token types in one contract |
| SPL | Solana | Solana-native NFTs |
| BEP-721 | BNB Chain | BNB Chain NFTs |
NFT Use Cases
Digital art — Artists sell verifiable original works directly to collectors
Gaming — In-game items, characters, and land with real ownership
Music — Artists tokenize albums, songs, and royalty rights
Collectibles — Digital trading cards and limited-edition items
Ticketing — Fraud-resistant event tickets with transferable ownership
Real-world assets — Tokenized property, luxury goods, and certificates
