Gasless Transactions

In Brief

Gasless transactions let users interact with a blockchain without paying the network fee from their own balance — a third party, usually a paymaster contract, sponsors the fee or accepts payment in a different token.

Gasless Transactions

What Are Gasless Transactions?

A gasless transaction is a blockchain transaction where the user does not pay the network fee from their own balance. Instead, a third party — usually a smart contract called a paymaster, or a relayer service — sponsors the fee or accepts payment in a different token, such as a stablecoin.

"Gasless" doesn't mean the network works for free: someone always pays the fee. The point is who pays, and in what currency. Sponsored fees solve the classic cold-start problem where a new user holds tokens but can't move them because they lack the chain's native coin for gas.

How Gasless Transactions Work

  1. You sign the action you want — a transfer, swap, or mint — but not the fee payment.

  2. A paymaster contract or relayer attaches the gas payment and submits the transaction to the network.

  3. The sponsor either absorbs the cost (as a promotion or app expense) or charges you in another token you actually hold.

  4. The network processes it like any other transaction — fees are paid, just not directly by you in the native coin.

What to Watch For

  • Nothing is free forever: understand how the sponsor recoups the cost — a markup, a spread, or a marketing budget.

  • The signature still rules: a sponsored transaction can still contain a harmful approval; read it like any other.

  • Availability varies: gasless flows depend on the chain, the app, and the token involved.

Gasless Transactions and Trust Wallet

Trust Wallet is a self-custody wallet, so whether a fee is sponsored or paid from your balance, nothing moves without your signature. The Security Scanner reviews transactions before you approve them — sponsored gas changes who pays the fee, not how carefully you should sign.
