How is "buying the devs" used?
In memecoin communities, traders may monitor newly launched tokens and developer-linked wallets for early buying activity. If they believe the developers are buying or holding the token, they may interpret that activity as a signal to buy themselves.
However, on-chain activity does not reveal a developer's intentions or guarantee that a token will succeed. Wallet ownership can also be difficult to attribute with certainty.
Why is buying the devs risky?
Developer selling: Developers or linked wallets may sell a large portion of their holdings, putting downward pressure on the token's price.
Rug pulls and scams: Some token launches are designed to take users' funds or prevent them from selling.
Extreme volatility: Memecoins can experience rapid price increases and declines, including losing most or all of their value.
Limited information: A wallet's activity does not necessarily reveal why a trade was made or what the trader plans to do next.
