摘要

A fair launch is a token launch where everyone can buy at the same time and price, with no pre-sale or insider allocation. Learn how it works and why "fair" doesn't mean "safe."

Fair Launch

A fair launch is a token launch designed to give participants broadly equal access to a token from the start, typically without a presale, private sale, or reserved allocation for selected investors or insiders.

The goal is to reduce the advantage that early insiders can have over public buyers. However, "fair" describes the distribution method, not the quality or safety of the token. A fair-launch token can still be highly speculative, poorly designed, or a scam.

How Does a Fair Launch Work?

In a typical fair launch, a token becomes publicly available for trading without an earlier sale to a selected group of investors.

The token's liquidity may be made available when public trading begins, allowing anyone who meets the launch conditions to participate.

However, participants may not actually buy at the same price. Differences in transaction timing, demand, liquidity, slippage, and network conditions can result in different execution prices.

Fair Launch vs Presale

In a presale, selected buyers can purchase tokens before they become available for general public trading. Presale participants may receive a different price or allocation from later buyers.

A fair launch generally removes or limits this type of early access in favor of broader public participation.

Fair launch Presale
Broad public access from launchSelected participants buy before public trading
Typically no private allocationMay include private or investor allocations
Participants generally enter around the public launchPresale participants may receive an earlier or different entry price
Distribution is intended to be more broadly accessibleSupply may be concentrated among early participants

Neither launch method guarantees that a token is legitimate, safe, or likely to increase in value.

What should you check before buying?

A fair launch does not remove the risks associated with a new token. Before interacting with a token, consider:

  • Liquidity: How much liquidity is available and whether it is locked or otherwise controlled.

  • Holder distribution: How concentrated the token supply is among wallets.

  • Contract permissions: Whether the contract contains functions that can restrict transfers, change fees, or otherwise affect trading.

  • Developer-linked wallets: How much of the supply is controlled by wallets associated with the project.

  • Trading activity: Whether the token has sufficient liquidity and genuine market activity.

A fair distribution can reduce certain forms of insider advantage, but it does not guarantee a fair outcome or protect against scams, volatility, or losses.
