How to Stake BNB

In Brief

Stake BNB by delegating to a BNB Chain validator directly from a self-custody wallet. Learn how rewards work, why unstaking takes 7 days, and how to stake on-chain from your own keys.

How to Stake BNB

Staking BNB means delegating your coins to a BNB Chain validator and earning a share of the rewards it generates. You do it on-chain from your own keys, with no platform holding your coins. The one constraint to plan around is the unbonding period: when you unstake, your BNB takes 7 days to become spendable again.

What Is BNB Staking?

BNB Chain is secured by a set of validators who take turns producing blocks. Validators are chosen partly by how much BNB is staked with them, and they share the rewards they earn with everyone who delegated to them, minus a commission. This is standard proof-of-stake economics: your stake helps secure the network, and the network pays you for it.

Your BNB is bonded to the validator through an on-chain transaction, but it remains attributed to your address. The protocol gives the validator no power to spend, move, or lend it.

How Do I Stake BNB Step by Step?

From a self-custody wallet, the whole process is a few taps:

  1. Set up the wallet and store your secret recovery phrase offline — it is the only backup.

  2. Add BNB, keeping a small amount unstaked for transaction fees.

  3. Open the BNB asset, choose Stake, pick a validator and an amount, and confirm.

  4. Rewards begin accruing once the delegation is active (amounts are variable and not guaranteed), and you can track them in the app.

  5. To exit, choose Unstake and confirm; your BNB becomes spendable after the 7-day unbonding period.

Because everything happens on-chain, you can verify your delegation on any BNB Chain explorer at any time.

How Do I Pick a BNB Validator?

Three things matter: uptime, commission, and track record. A validator that is frequently offline misses blocks and earns less for its delegators, so consistent performance matters more than any other single number. Commission is the cut the validator keeps from rewards — reasonable commissions fund reliable operations, so the cheapest option is not automatically the best. Finally, prefer validators that have operated dependably for a long time. Spreading a larger stake across two or three validators reduces the impact of any single one underperforming.

Why Does Unstaking BNB Take 7 Days?

The 7-day unbonding period is a security feature, not an inconvenience added by wallets. If validators and delegators could withdraw instantly, an attacker could misbehave and pull their stake before the network applied penalties. The delay ensures there is time to apply penalties for bad behavior — that is why the delay exists.

Practically, it means two things for you: during the 7 days your BNB earns no rewards, and you cannot sell it if the price moves. Stake only what you are comfortable leaving untouched, and keep a liquid reserve for anything time-sensitive. If you only want to switch validators rather than exit, redelegating avoids the full unbonding wait in most cases.

Is Staking BNB Safe?

The structural risks are the same as on other proof-of-stake networks. Delegation gives the validator no control over your BNB, but validators that violate protocol rules can be penalized, which can affect delegators — choosing established operators keeps this risk small. Price risk never goes away: BNB can fall in value while staked and during the unbonding week. And because you are staking from a self-custody wallet, the security of your secret recovery phrase is ultimately what protects everything. Staking BNB with Trust Wallet

Trust Wallet has supported BNB from its earliest days and lets you stake it in-app while keeping full self-custody. Open the asset, choose Stake, pick an amount and confirm — the delegation is signed by your keys and goes straight on-chain. Its built-in Security Scanner checks transactions against known risk signals and warns you before you approve — a prompt to look closer, not a guarantee. Alongside BNB, you can stake ETH, SOL, TRX, ATOM, and more from the same app. Start at the BNB staking page or compare all assets at the Trust Wallet staking hub.
